Our Terroir:
The Vineyards

At Georgian Legacy, our vineyards represent the very essence of our winemaking philosophy.

Each vine is rooted not just in Georgia’s fertile soils, but also in 8,000 years of winemaking tradition. Our vineyards are spread across some of Georgia’s most prestigious wine regions, where the perfect combination of soil, climate, and topography enables us to cultivate indigenous grape varieties known for their rich flavors and complexity.

The soils in these regions consist of a diverse mix of alluvial deposits, limestone, and clay, which contribute to the distinct character of our wines. The vineyards vary in elevation, stretching from the low-lying plains of Kakheti to the higher, more elevated terrains of Kartli and Imereti. This range in altitude provides an array of microclimates, allowing us to grow grapes with a wide range of flavor profiles, adding depth and complexity to every bottle.

Each vine is meticulously tended throughout the growing season, reflecting our belief that great wine begins in the vineyard. We practice careful vineyard management—from precision pruning to handpicking during harvest—to ensure only the best grapes make it into our wines. Our vineyards stand as a testament to Georgia’s ancient heritage and a bridge to the future, where tradition and innovation come together to create world-class wines.

Georgian Wine Regions

Kakheti

Kakheti is Georgia’s premier wine-producing region and often referred to as the cradle of Georgian winemaking. Located in the eastern part of the country, Kakheti benefits from a warm, dry climate with long, hot summers and mild winters. The Alazani River Valley, nestled between the towering Caucasus Mountains, provides an ideal setting for grape cultivation. Here, the rich, alluvial soils are perfect for growing native grape varieties such as Saperavi and Rkatsiteli.

Wines from Kakheti are renowned for their bold, complex flavors, high tannin content, and impressive aging potential. The region is famous for its use of the ancient Qvevri fermentation method, which imparts earthy and robust characteristics to the wines. Kakheti’s ability to seamlessly blend traditional and modern winemaking practices makes it a standout region in Georgia’s winemaking heritage.

Kartli

Situated to the west of Kakheti, Kartli is a key region in the central part of Georgia, characterized by its temperate climate. The influence of both the Caucasus Mountains and the warmth of the plains provides a balanced environment for growing various grape varieties, especially those used for sparkling wines and lighter reds like Chinuri, Tavkveri, and Shavkapito.

Wines from Kartli tend to be more delicate, with refreshing acidity, floral aromas, and elegant mineral notes. Kartli’s winemaking history is deeply connected to Georgian Orthodox monasteries, where wine has been produced for religious ceremonies for centuries. The region’s diverse terroir supports both traditional wine styles and experimental approaches, making Kartli a unique and evolving wine region.

Imereti

Imereti, located in western Georgia, offers a completely different winemaking style due to its humid, subtropical climate. This region is home to more than 40 indigenous grape varieties, including Tsolikouri, Krakhuna, and Otskhanuri Sapere, which are used to produce light, aromatic, and fresh wines.

Imereti’s wines often showcase bright acidity, with floral and citrus notes, and a light-bodied, refreshing character. In this region, winemakers use smaller Qvevris, which are buried deeper in the ground, resulting in softer, fruit-forward wines. The steep, terraced vineyards of Imereti create wines that are as diverse and vibrant as the landscape itself.

Sustainable Viticulture

At Georgian Legacy, sustainability is our foundation. We nurture a healthy vineyard ecosystem through organic methods, minimizing synthetic chemicals and using natural solutions like beneficial insects and cover crops.

We conserve water with precise irrigation and prevent soil erosion through terracing and smart soil management. Beyond the vineyard, we support small family-owned farms, preserving Georgia’s winemaking heritage while reducing energy use and waste in our production.

For us, sustainability is more than just a commitment—it’s a responsibility. By nurturing the land and respecting nature, we ensure that Georgia’s rich terroirs will continue to produce world-class wines for generations to come.
